I’m not going to post this on my personal tumblr. This goes right the fuck here.
I’m not saying you have to like Homestuck. You don’t need to. Homestuck is not for everyone and I’ve always known this. Most of the fandom knows this, and if you were getting harassed by fans who were trying to get you to read it when you didn’t want to, then you were talking to the 10% of the fandom that is present in every fandom. THIS. IS. NOT. EXCLUSIVE. TO. THE. HOMESTUCK. FANDOM. STOP ACTING LIKE IT IS.
I tried to be polite about the hate directed at this fandom. I tried to be nice. I tried to ask why and be demure and treat you with the respect you felt this fandom didn’t deserve. That stops now. Right. Fucking. Now.
ONE:
THERE IS NO FUCKING TABOO. WHAT ARE YOU EVEN SAYING. This is fucking Tumblr. Tumblr is the safest place for those who are different, outcast, abused, and frightened to come and be creative, and APPRECIATED. NO GROUP OR FANDOM ON TUMBLR WILL EVER. EVER. EVER DISCRIMINATE AGAINST YOU FOR SOMETHING YOU ARE, SAID, DID, OR THOUGHT. There might be members of that group that will. This is A) to be expected. There is always that rough 10% of any given fandom, like I said, and B) STILL NOT OKAY. In addition to this being Tumblr, Homestuck is just icing on the acceptance cake! You think that just because ONE OR TWO HOMESTUCKS GAVE YOU SHIT, THE ENTIRE FANDOM IS SHIT??? YOU THINK THAT JUST BECAUSE THAT HAPPENED, THE REST OF THE FANDOM WILL TREAT YOU THAT WAY???? YOU THINK WE ENDORSE THAT KIND OF BEHAVIOR??? Let me tell you I have witnessed the Homestuck fandom dealing with one bad apple and we BANDED TOGETHER AND SUPPORTED EACH OTHER. WE ARE A GODDAMNED FAMILY. AND YOU KNOW WHAT? If you want to be a Homestuck we will welcome you with open goddamned arms. IF YOU DONT WANT TO BE A HOMESTUCK, WE WILL STILL WELCOME YOU WITH OPEN GODDAMNED ARMS. This fandom is the best, most loving, accepting, creative fandom I have ever encountered. SO RIDDLE ME THIS: WHY, IN THE MIDST OF THIS WONDERFUL, ACCEPTING, LOVING FANDOM, WOULD THERE BE A TABBOO ON DISLIKING HOMESTUCK???
Just be RESPECTFUL WITH YOUR OPINIONS, AND WE WILL LISTEN AND BE RESPECTFUL RIGHT BACK. LIKE EVERYTHING ELSE IN LIFE. Example: “You know, I really don’t much care for__________. Here is why:________” Versus “OH MY GOD _______ FUCKING SUCKS AND UR A FUCKING RETARD IF YOU LIKE IT ______ CAN GO SUCK A DICK”
OF COURSE THE REACTIONS TO (FILL IN THE BLANK) BEING ATTACKED WILL BE STRONG, IF IT MEANS A LOT TO ME. And you know what? I can guarantee you that even in the face of the latter, 85% of the Homestuck fandom will be polite, or at most ignore you, and be a little miffed.
YOU INSTIGATED THIS. YOU INSTIGATED THE “BEAT UP BY ALL THE TROLLS ON THE INTERTUBES.” BECAUSE YOU VERBALLY ATTACKED SOMETHING THEY LOVED. IF I VERBALLY ATTACKED YOUR MOTHER, BEST FRIEND, BOYFRIEND, FILL IN THE BLANK, I DARE YOU TO LOOK ME IN THE EYES AND NOT GET ANGRY.
TWO:
Do you even know what you’re talking about? You keep throwing terms like “Domestic abuse” and “America (FUCK YEAH)” around and oh my your argument has more holes than a five-sided cheese grater.
Let’s play a game. How many fallacies can I apply here?
In regard to you lumping the entirety of Homestuck and its fandom into one ball of mean, elitist “trolls” who will “beat you up” based upon the interactions you shared with a few:
Ludic fallacy – the belief that the outcomes of a non-regulated random occurrences can be encapsulated by a statistic.
Fallacy of composition – assuming that something true of part of a whole must also be true of the whole.
Regression fallacy – ascribes cause where none exists.
Hasty generalization – basing a broad conclusion on a small sample.
Texas sharpshooter fallacy – improperly asserting a cause to explain a cluster of data.
Association fallacy (guilt by association) – arguing that because two things share a property they are the same
Genetic fallacy – where a conclusion is suggested based solely on something or someone’s origin rather than its current meaning or context.
Cherry picking (suppressed evidence, incomplete evidence) – act of pointing at individual cases or data that seem to confirm a particular position, while ignoring a significant portion of related cases or data that may contradict that position.
Argument from silence (argumentum e silentio) – where the conclusion is based on the absence of evidence, rather than the existence of evidence.
Circular cause and consequence – where the consequence of the phenomenon is claimed to be its root cause
Correlation does not imply causation (cum hoc ergo propter hoc) – a faulty assumption that correlation between two variables implies that one causes the other.
Reification (hypostatization) – a fallacy of ambiguity, when an abstraction (abstract belief or hypothetical construct) is treated as if it were a concrete, real event or physical entity. In other words, it is the error of treating as a “real thing” something which is not a real thing, but merely an idea.
Faulty generalizations – reach a conclusion from weak premises.
In regard to the way you phrased your entire post:
Judgmental language – insulting or pejorative language to influence the recipient’s judgment
Abusive fallacy – a subtype of “ad hominem” when it turns into name-calling rather than arguing about the originally proposed argument.
Argumentum ad baculum (appeal to the stick, appeal to force, appeal to threat) – an argument made through coercion or threats of force to support position
Kettle logic – using multiple inconsistent arguments to defend a position.
Mind projection fallacy – when one considers the way he sees the world as the way the world really is.
Circular reasoning – when the reasoner begins with what he or she is trying to end up with;
Misleading vividness – involves describing an occurrence in vivid detail, even if it is an exceptional occurrence, to convince someone that it is a problem.
Psychologist’s fallacy – an observer presupposes the objectivity of his own perspective when analyzing a behavioral event
In regard to you including your homosexuality into the post:
Red herring – a speaker attempts to distract an audience by deviating from the topic at hand by introducing a separate argument which the speaker believes will be easier to speak to.
False attribution – an advocate appeals to an irrelevant, unqualified, unidentified, biased or fabricated source in support of an argument
Equivocation – the misleading use of a term with more than one meaning (by glossing over which meaning is intended at a particular time)
Definist fallacy – involves the confusion between two notions by defining one in terms of the other.
If-by-whiskey – an argument that supports both sides of an issue by using terms that are selectively emotionally sensitive.
In regard to you addressing “the thousands of other people out there like [you] who are too afraid of falling victim to domestic abuse to voice their opinion”:
Exaggeration - Representing an argument in an excessive manner
Argumentum ad populum – where a proposition is claimed to be true or good solely because many people believe it to be so
Appeal to spite – a specific type of appeal to emotion where an argument is made through exploiting people’s bitterness or spite towards an opposing party
Appeal to flattery – a specific type of appeal to emotion where an argument is made due to the use of flattery to gather support.
Appeal to pity (argumentum ad misericordiam) – an argument attempts to induce pity to sway opponents
Appeal to equality – where an assertion is deemed true or false based on an assumed pretense of equality.
Burden of proof – I need not prove my claim, you must prove it is false;
argumentum ad ignorantiam – assuming that a claim is true (or false) because it has not been proven false (true) or cannot be proven false (true).
plurium interrogationum – someone asks a question that presupposes something that has not been proven or accepted by all the people involved.
My, that’s quite the body count there, friend.
And last,
THREE:
I will give you this concession: You are correct in the knowledge that you have just as much right to hate it as we have to love it (though your use of “weaboo” was comically misplaced).
Even if you didn’t like Homestuck before your experience with these “trolls that will beat you up,” I will actually apologize to you here for whoever those fans were that drove you to hate Homestuck so much you felt you had to make a falsely-supported post about taboos and spread more hate that this fandom doesn’t deserve. I’m so sorry you felt the need to do that.
Mostly because, they were wrong to try and force you into liking Homestuck! Yes! You have the right to your own opinion! Yes! You have the freedom of speech! Just like I could call you awful, degrading, ignorant names, too. BUT I WON’T. BECAUSE IM A DECENT FUCKING HUMAN BEING WHO RESPECTS OTHERS AND I DONT LUMP AN ENTIRE GROUP OF PEOPLE INTO ONE BECAUSE I MET ONE WHO WAS A FUCKING INTOLERANT UNINFORMED CESSPOOL.
You don’t have to like it. And if you are such a CHILD about not liking it, if you have to ADVERTISE how much you DESPISE IT and ITS FANS, then the more power to you. I don’t want you in our fandom. I don’t want you in our family. Go back to your corner so we can play with our little grey trolls and leave us the fuck alone. I DO NOT LIKE YOU SAM I AM.
Hot damn, preach the truth.
I just need to applaud you for this post.
Hoshit. ._.
