You’ll never hear a leader of christianity, islam or judaism, etc, etc talk this way. It’s pretty refreshing because what we’re used to.

For thai-tea =)

“If there were a real proof that the Sun is in the center of the universe, that the Earth in the third heaven, and that the Sun does not go round the Earth but the Earth round the Sun, then we should have to proceed with great circumspection in explaining passages of Scripture which appear to teach the contrary, and rather admit that we did not understand them than declare an opinion to be false which is proved to be true.”

-Reverend Cardinal Robert Bellarmine, Consultor of the Holy Office and Master of Controversial Questions in a letter to Paolo Antonio Foscarini dated April 12, 1615

You were saying?

And the Catholics that stopped at nothing to silence Galileo?  Let’s just sweep them under a rug right?  Catholics are quite religiocentric.  Almost every time they reply to a post, they use Catholic examples.  Catholics strongly opposed heliocentrism and that’s an incontrovertible fact.

“One problem facing the heliocentric model was that the Roman Catholic Church, a very powerful organization in Copernicus’ time, considered it heretical. This may have been one of the reasons why Copernicus did not publish his theory until he was on his deathbed. After Copernicus died, the Roman Catholic Church worked even harder to suppress the heliocentric view. The Church arrested Galileo for promoting the heretical heliocentric model and kept him in house arrest for the last eight years of his life. Around the same time that Galileo created his telescope, the astronomer Johannes Kepler was refining the heliocentric model and trying to prove it with calculations (read more).”

That source is infinitely more trustworthy than the pro-Catholic sites you frequent.  Go ahead; talk about Lemaitre, Mendel and the other Catholics who contributed to science.  I’ll proceed to talk about Muslims who contributed to science; I’ll proceed to talk about Deists who contributed to science (Einstein doesn’t belong to your church; take that).  I’ll proceed to talk about atheists who contributed to science (we have Carl Sagan!).  Do you see how petulant that is?  Isn’t that petty?  Now go look in the mirror because that is exactly how you behave; you’re a petulant, religiocentric child who sticks his tongue out at non-Catholics because Catholics contributed to science.  Catholics also contributed to some of the worse atrocities in history.  Catholics also perpetrated one of the biggest—if not the biggest—child sex scandals in history.  Where’s your tongue now?  Oh, I can take that image to a nasty place, but I digress.
